Shedeur Sanders has a fitting response to not being picked in the first round of 2025 NFL Draft
Shedeur Sanders, who was once the favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick, went undrafted on day 1 of the 2025 NFL draft.

Day one of the 2025 NFL draft ended in disappointment for Shedeur Sanders’ camp. The Colorado quarterback was the odds-on favorite to be the second quarterback taken behind Cam Ward, but his name was never called by Roger Goodell.
The day kicked off with the Titans selecting Ward first overall, and Sanders’ Colorado teammate, Travis Hunter, went to the Jaguars at second overall after the Jacksonville franchise traded places with the Browns, who dropped to five.
One by one, teams that were linked with drafting Sanders passed on him. Teams such as the Las Vegas Raiders (6th pick took Ashton Jeanty), New Orleans Saints (9th pick took Kelvin Banks Jr.), and Pittsburgh Steelers (21st pick took Derrick Harmon).
The Kansas City Chiefs picked the final player on day one. They traded down by sending the 31st pick to the current Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, who selected Jihaad Campbell. The Chiefs then drafted Ohio State’s Josh Simmons at 32.

The Giants passed on Shedeur Sanders twice
In the earliest of mock drafts, the New York Giants were among the two teams projected to draft Sanders 3. However, as the draft came closer, his stock plummeted.

Reports began to flood in from scouts and general managers expressing discontent about Sander’s ‘entitled’ attitude.
The worst formal interview I’ve ever been in in my life. He’s so entitled. He takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has horrible body language. He blames teammates, but the biggest thing is, he’s not that good.
an NFL executive reportedly told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero
Despite the bad rapport, Sanders was still expected to be a day 1 pick. The Giants, despite signing two veteran quarterbacks, still had room for a rookie on the roster.
However, his position as a top quarterback was under threat while Ole Miss’s Jaxson Dart was gaining ground. ESPN’s Peter Schrager mocked Dart to the Giants.
If the draft falls this way, I think the Rams would be OK with this. They don’t currently have a second-round pick, but if they agreed to this deal, they’d have four picks on Day 2. I think the Giants would pounce on Dart. I just am not 100% certain.

Dart’s draft stock surged from a second-round pick to a first-rounder. He caught up to Shedeur and passed him. The Giants traded the 34th overall pick (second round), the 99th overall pick (third round), and a 2026 third-round pick to the Houston Texans to acquire their No. 25 overall pick and drafted Dart.
Earlier in the day, Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen’s team selected Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter at 3rd overall. This was already on the cards.
The Giants selected two players, and neither was Shedeur Sanders. But that didn’t dim the brightness in his eyes because he’s the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.
We all didn’t expect this, of course, but I feel like with God, anything is possible. I don’t feel like this happened [didn’t get drafted on day 1], you know, for no reason. All this is just more fuel to the fire. Under no circumstances we didn’t notice this would happen but we understand that we’re on a bigger and better things. Tomorrow’s the day. We going to be happy regardless.

Day one may have ended in disappointment, but day 2 could bring great news for Sanders. He could easily be the first player off the board on Friday, as the Browns hold the 33rd pick. The Browns also own the 36th pick, and unless general manager Andrew Berry decides to trade, Shedeur might find himself learning behind Joe Flacco in Cleveland.
