Few things are as iconic as Shedeur Sanders’ ‘Watch Celebration.’ Football fans enjoyed his aura plenty in college; now, NFL fans caught a glimpse of what is waiting for them in the days to come.

On August 8, Sanders made his Cleveland Browns debut against the Carolina Panthers at the Bank of America Stadium, as head coach Kevin Stefanski had promised.

After shaking off the early jitters, Sanders began connecting with his teammates. He linked with Trayveon Williams and Dylan Sampson before making his first big play of the night at the start of the second quarter.

On 2nd and Goal, Sanders threw a dot to undrafted receiver Kaden Davis in triple coverage for a 7-yard touchdown. Sanders commemorated his first touchdown in the NFL, albeit in preseason, with his iconic ‘Watch Celebration.’

Famous sports apparel brand Nike joined in with a new punchline, “Only a matter of time.”

Sanders’ night was far from over. His connection with Davis returned near the end of the first half.

From first and 10, Sanders, after the snap, took a few steps to his right and threw a dart to Davis inside the red zone, who caught a sliding catch to give the Browns their first lead in the fixture.

I will say, I haven’t been able to sleep good at night knowing I was playing… I just prepared as normal but it was definitely a switch that flipped. When you are out there on the field, it’s different, ball’s ball. It has never been a problem for me.

Shedeur Sanders said in the post-match press conference

Fans wanted to see Sanders play in the preseason, but hardly anyone expected him to start in the Panthers game. Stephen A. Smith argued that the Browns were setting the 23-year-old “up to fail” because he was the only quarterback who did not take any reps with the first team players.

Sanders made a big case for himself to be one of the quarterbacks for the final Browns roster

It mattered little on the field of play. As Sanders mentioned, a switch flipped when he stepped on the turf.

Four minutes before the end of the third quarter, the Browns had possession of the ball on 4th and 4. Sanders stood over it and quickly handed it to undrafted rookie Gage Larvadain, who split the Panthers’ defense to leap in for the Browns’ third touchdown.

Before passing the baton over to Tyler Huntley, Sanders contributed two passing touchdowns and set up one on the ground. His debut game in the NFL ended with 14 completions from 23 for 138 yards and 2 scores with a QBR of 111.79.

I am just thankful to even be able to have the joy of being on the field overall. Caring the responsibility of doing the right thing—that’s two badges under my belt already.

Sanders added

Huntley, who joined the Browns in Carolina, made an instant impact. He led a drive six minutes before the final whistle that resulted in a Cade McDonald 6-yard touchdown pass.

The game finished 30-10 in favor of the Browns, with Bryce Young throwing the only touchdown of the game for the Panthers.

The Browns travel to the home of the Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. If Stefanski plays against the Eagles, then it will be a big test of his skills as a quarterback.
