There is probably no other women’s track and field athlete more popular currently than Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. It is not just due to her on field exploits with her eight Olympic medals but doing that at a consistently high level for five straight summer games. That, and her personality has netted her some quality endorsements over the years. But she took it up a notch by wearing her newest endorsement with Richard Mille at the Paris Olympics 2024 100m heats.

The 37-year-old has recently signed to be an ambassador for the Swiss luxury watch maker. On that note, she took the opportunity to flaunt the latest RM 07-04 watch from its women’s collection. But wearing it during the 100m heats at the Olympics was an out of this world moment.

Richard Mille’s latest fully automatic watch, with a base price of $185,000 in the US, crossed the finish line while on her wrist with a time of 10:92.

The watch has other notable gold medal winning ambassadors, such as American golfer Nelly Korda, Czech skier Ester Ledecka and Belgian Heptathlon specialist Nafi Thiam. Fraser-Pryce seems to be the most decorated of the lot and therefore, had all the right in the world to flaunt her watch during the heats.

Her time happened to be the second-best time of the heats, qualifying her for the semi-finals to be held tomorrow. As this will be the last Olympics of her illustrious career, she will give it her all to reach the finals and possibly win a ninth Olympic medal.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and a legendary career

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was raised by a mother who worked as a street food vendor. Unable to afford spikes, she ran barefoot in primary school. A teacher noticed her natural talent and bought her her first pair of spikes. Since then, she has participated in several school-level championships and consistently won.

However, when she approached the highest level of competition, she lost interest, often running late for practices and lacking focus. When she participated in the Osaka World Championships in 2007, she was merely a reserve for the relay team. That event, however, brought her some much-needed confidence. Her entire approach to athletics changed with that experience.

Since then, she has won eight Olympic medals, including three gold. She has won 10 gold medals as a part of her 16 total medals at the World Championships. Now if she wins two more medals at the Paris Olympics 2024, she will join the legendary Allyson Felix as the most decorated female athletes in the world.
