Shkodran Mustafi terminates Arsenal contract and joins Schalke on a permanent transfer
Arsenal centre-back Shkodran Mustafi has completed a permanent move to Schalke. Mustafi terminated his deal at the Emirates Stadium and signed a six-month contract at Schalke.
The Gunners will receive a small compensation fee from Schalke. Mustafi had made it clear he wanted to move out of the club as Arteta did not play him enough.
Mustafi had 6 months left in his Arsenal contract
The 28-year-old defender has fallen out of favour under Arteta and made only 9 appearances this season. He has only 3 appearances for Arsenal in the Premier League.
Mustafi will join Arsenal as a replacement for Ozan Kabak who joined Liverpool on the same day. Mustafi has suffered a hamstring injury which hindered his performances at Arsenal.
Arsenal manager wished the defender all the best for his future at Schalke. “Musti has been a key player for us for a long period of time.”
“He played a very important part in my first season as manager and I’d like to thank him for his professionalism and for always being ready when called upon. Everybody at Arsenal wishes Musti well at Schalke.”
“We are convinced that with Shkodran Mustafi we have been able to sign a very good central defender who will fill the sporting void that Ozan is undoubtedly leaving behind,” said Jochen Schneider, Schalke’s sporting director.
Mustafi joined Arsenal back in 2016 from Valencia in a £35m deal. He has won the FA Cup twice during his 4 year stay at North London.
