Shreyasi Singh is one of the best Shotgun shooters in India. She won a gold medal in the 2018 Gold Coast CWG in the women’s double trap. She has now become a BJP MLA from Jamui, Bihar.

Singh first represented India at the 2010 Delhi CWG but failed to win a single medal. Then she won silver medal in double trap at 2014 Glasgow CWG. She won a bronze medal in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and had participated in the 2013 Trap Shooting World Cup in Mexico. She is also an Arjuna awardee.

She is the daughter of former Union Minister and Lok Sabha MP, Digvijay Singh and ex-MP Putul Kumari. Her father and grandfather, Kumar Serender Singh, were both presidents of Rifle Association of India.

The 30 year old shooter became the BJP candidate for the Bihar assembly election. She made her electoral debut from the Jamui assembly seat. She was pitted against ex-Bihar minister Vijay Prakash Yadav and won by 41,000 votes, according to Election Commission release.

During her election campaign, Singh said she wants to become the face of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Aatmanirbhar”  India initiative and work towards creating job opportunities in Bihar so that people in the state do not have to move outside the state to earn a livelihood.

Shreyasi also plans to continue her sports career along with politics. Winning an Olympic gold is still her dream.

That is the reason I have chosen to contest assembly polls rather than Lok Sabha polls. An assembly constituency is smaller than a Lok Sabha constituency. Winning an Olympic gold is still my dream,” she told news agency PTI-Bhasha.
