Shooting at Tokyo Olympics, Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary
In shooting at Tokyo Olympics, the mixed team 10m air pistol qualifications took place on day 5. The athletes had to shoot a total of 60 shots, 30 each in 30 minutes each. The top 8 teams would move on to the second round of qualification, which would eventually decide the teams for the gold medal and bronze medal matches. India saw two teams in this event, one of Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary who finished 1st, and the other of Abhishek Verma and Yashaswini Deswal.
Bhaker and Chaudhary got off to a very strong start, with Chaudhary quickly completing the first series with a 98. Bhaker took her time, but delivered a 97, and India took the lead. Chaudhary was already off to the second set, ready to dominate with straight tens, and finished the series with a perfect 100. Bhaker had a relatively weak outing, but still finished strong with a score of 94. Chaudhary delivered a stunning performance to end the series with a 98, while Bhaker managed to finish things off with a 95.
The Indian Duo managed a consistent performance as they took the top spot with a final score of 582, with 26x, by far the most of the competition.
The ROC team finished second, with Vitalina and Artem scoring a total of 581, with 19x. China’s Ranxin and Wei slowly climbed up the ranks, finished in a tie with ROC, while Ukraine’s Olena and Oleh took the 4th spot with a total of 580. It was Serbia who took fifth and Australia who finished in 6th, while China’s second team managed to claim the 7th spot.
Shooting at Tokyo Olympics: Abhishek Verma, Yashaswini Deswal fail to Make a Mark in Qualification

While Iran’s Javad Foroughi and Haniyeh Rostamiyan took the lead initially, they could only manage to finish in 8th place with a score of 575 with their 18x allowing them to move forward in this other wise very strong field.
The Indian pair of Yashaswini Deswal and Abhishek Verma looked rocky from the start. Verma’s performance for some reason did not match up to his standards, as he shot a 7 and a few 8s, which essentially sealed their fate. While Deswal delivered a rather strong performance, shooting a 95, 95, 91 Verma managed a 92, 94, 97. It was definitely not enough as they finished 17th with a score of 584.
The second round of the qualification will see all 8 shooters shoot 20 shots each, where the top 2 teams will advance to the gold medal match and the next two teams will fight it out for the bronze.
