ISSF Shooting World Cup 2021: Saurabh Chaudhary clinches bronze as Manu Bhaker and Yashaswini Deswal falter in finals

Saurabh Chaudhary has become the first Indian to clinch a medal in the second stage of the ISSF Shooting World Cup 2021. With a final shot of only 8.7. Tokyo bound Chaudhary finished third with 220 points as he narrowly missed out on a top-two finish. Foroughi Javad clinched the gold while Mikec Damir bagged the silver medal.

Abhishek Verma too made it to the final but failed to register a podium finish. He finished fifth with 179.3 points. The Indians have failed to make a mark in the competition so far. With only one medalist thus far, the Indian team have failed drastically compared to their performance in the first stage of the competition where they claimed a whopping 30 medals at Delhi.

Manu Bhaker and Yashaswini Deswal had qualified for finals of the women’s 10m air pistol event in the ISSF Shooting World Cup with ease. While Bhaker was placed sixth with 577 points in the qualifying round while Yashaswini finished fifth a point more than her fellow countrymate. But the duo faltered in the final as they finished seventh and eighth respectively.

The second stage of the World Cup kicked off on 24th June in Osijek, Croatia and is the final frontier for the Tokyo Olympics bound shooters. While the Indian team had been camping in Croatia since the last month, their dismal showing has been a huge shock for Indian supporters. While the first day of the World Cup has been a disaster for the side, one will hope that the side will bounce back as the tournament progresses.
