In Short
  • Virat Kohli displayed aggression towards Shubman Gill during the IPL 2026 match between RCB and GT.
  • Shubman Gill responded to Kohli's send-off with a witty social media post after GT's victory.
  • Gill achieved multiple milestones, including becoming the first player to hit 100 sixes for Gujarat Titans.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru star Virat Kohli showcased his ‘aggressive’ side during the team’s IPL 2026 clash against the Gujarat Titans. Kohli gave a furious send-off to GT skipper Shubman Gill after his dismissal, but the latter responded with a witty social media post.

GT defeated RCB in Ahmedabad, restricting the visitors to 155 runs, courtesy Arshad Khan’s three-wicket haul. Devdutt Padikkal top-scored for RCB, with a crucial 40 runs off 24 balls, while Virat Kohli contributed with 28 runs off 13 balls. Since no other RCB batter managed to score more than 20 runs, this was the first time all season that the defending champions were bowled out for such a low first-innings total.

Shubman Gill set the platform for Gujarat’s chase with a blistering 43 runs off 18 balls. He smashed 24 runs off Josh Hazlewood’s second over, ending the game with four boundaries and three sixes. However, a few quick wickets, including that of Jos Buttler (39 off 19), allowed RCB to make a brief comeback. However, it was short-lived as Rahul Tewatia (27* off 17) helped GT get over the line in 15.5 overs, with four wickets in hand.

While the match featured several flashpoints, what stood out was the confrontation between Kohli and Gill. The GT skipper, in the fifth over of the second innings, was dismissed when Kohli took a sharp reverse-cupped catch near his neck at cover. The 37-year-old then erupted, flinging the ball onto the ground, giving Gill an intense ‘send-off’ by staring directly at him, and mouthing ‘Come On!’ right in his face.

Despite Kohli’s animated reaction, Gill chose not to engage with the RCB veteran. However, he chose to respond to the on-field banter in an interesting way after the win. The young captain celebrated his team’s win by sharing pictures of the game on social media, including one of Kohli giving him a ‘death-stare’. He added a witty caption that lauded teammate Jason Holder, who had a confrontation with Virat Kohli, for his POTM performance. Gill also used the word ‘Bold’, which is frequently associated with RCB.

With this, Gill also continued with the trend of taking playful social media digs at teams after defeating them. After a win at Chepauk, he shared a picture of himself on the flight back home, holding a yellow whistle to mock CSK’s ‘Whistle Podu’ anthem.

The Prince delivers: Shubman Gill achieved records in GT’s victory over RCB

Shubman Gill had an explosive outing against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, as he guided his team, the Gujarat Titans, to a crucial four-wicket win in Ahmedabad. The 26-year-old also achieved several individual milestones while batting in the second-innings chase.

The Indian Test captain scored a brisk 43 runs off 18 balls during the 156-run chase against RCB, with the help of 4 boundaries and 3 maximums. The third six of his innings, which was a flick over deep backward square leg, made him the first player in the history of the IPL to hit 100 sixes for the Gujarat Titans. To put his dominance in perspective, the next most prolific six-hitter is Sai Sudharsan, who has hit 69 sixes.

Gill raced to 35 runs in the first 10 deliveries that he faced, which helped him surpass the previous GT record, held by Hardik Pandya, for the most runs scored in their first 10 balls of an innings in an IPL game. Earlier during the tournament, he had already gone past Virat Kohli’s decade-old record to become the youngest player to score over 4,000 IPL runs, with Gill achieving the feat in 26 years, 216 days.

For GT, he stands as their all-time highest run-scorer, with 2,822 runs in 68 matches at an average of 46.26 and a strike-rate of 150.50, including 4 hundreds and 19 fifties. Having also played for KKR in the past, Shubman Gill’s overall IPL tally stands at 4,239 runs.
