Pittsburgh Penguins re-sign NHL star Sidney Crosby for two more years with an AAV of $8.7 million on Monday. The fans are ecstatic to learn of the news, as they’ll get to see the ‘C’ stitched on ‘Sid the Kid’ for a couple more years.
While Crosby is still unsure how long he’ll be able to play in the NHL, he will be nearing his 40s when the 2026-27 season ends. Earlier the Pens captain noted that he’d make a decision prior to the 2024-25 regular season games, and he did not drag it any further.
The decision has finally been made. When asked why there was a hold-up in re-signing with the team, Sidney Crosby said he was merely speculating how much longer he could play on the ice.
Trying to project how you’re going to feel in a number of years, it’s hard. Just making sure that it’s something that made sense for both myself and the team.Sidney Crosby as per Will Graves of AP News.
President of Hockey Operations and Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas said,
There are no words to properly describe what Sidney Crosby means to the game of hockey, the city of Pittsburgh and the Penguins organization. Sidney is the greatest player of his generation and one of the greatest players in the history of the game. His actions today show why he is one of hockey’s greatest winners and leaders. Sid is making a tremendous personal sacrifice in an effort to help the Penguins win, both now and in the future, as he has done for his entire career.Kyle Dubas on X.

Sidney Crosby, one of the top 10 NHL players in history, has recorded 1,596 points in 1,272 games, with at least a point per game in each of his 19 NHL seasons; a feat only accomplished by Wayne Gretzky. He sits right beside Mario Lemieux in goals, assists, and points.
Manager Kyle Dubas said Crosby’s work ethic, character, and play style are the “stuff of legends to those inside of hockey.” Fans have bombarded the online platforms to wish the captain all the best for the rest years with the Penguins. Check out some reactions below:

My favorite athlete ever not just for what he does on the ice but how incredible of a human he is off of it. This man deserves more than that and he knows it like everyone else but he took his teams future and salary into consideration.

Dubas expressed that what makes Sidney Crosby one of the greatest is how he continues to break his own records and delivers more than he promises. With Sid at the center, Dubas hopes to build the team by 2027 so the youngsters will still have a look at ‘The Next One’.
