Simona Halep back on court after 2 weeks of rehab
The much anticipated Clay season is here and the women’s clay court tennis, with some of the top names in the circuit battled for glory at WTA Charleston in the US and another event simultaneously in the Colombian capital Bogota.
However, the three top names missing in action at these events are Serena Williams, her elder sister Venus Williams and Romanian Simona Halep.
Halep, who won the 2018 French Open, also earned the title of the ‘queen of clay’ by some fans. The two-time Grand Slam champion won a tricky second-round tie at Miami before withdrawing from the event with an injury.
Simona Halep back in training with coach Cahill
The 29-year old Romanian withdrew from the Miami Open last month due to the injury. And now she took to twitter to give updates about her training. She posted a picture of herself with coach Darren Cahill.
“First day back after 2 weeks of rehab and back on the clay. Today was a good day,” Halep wrote.
“I’m very sorry to have to pull out of singles and doubles at the Miami Open, but my injury just let me play here at I expected,” she said at the time. “I’m sad that I can’t continue, I wanted to come here to give my best and play matches but unfortunately I can’t.”
The world No. 3 is scheduled to headline Next week’s Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, alongside world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty. Halep’s longtime coach Darren Cahill flew in to help his charge prepare for her grueling red-dirt campaign.
