Simone Biles has won the gold medal in the women’s gymnastics individual all-around competition at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, becoming the first American gymnast to win the event twice. She joins Larisa Latynina and Vera Caslavska as the only women to achieve this feat.

Biles started strong with a massive score on vault but made a mistake on uneven bars that briefly put her in second place behind Rebeca Andrade. However, she bounced back with impressive performances on beam and floor to secure her second all-around gold medal. Teammate Suni Lee earned a bronze medal, while Andrade won silver.

Biles’ victory marks her ninth Olympic medal and sixth gold, making her the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history. She is also the most decorated gymnast in history, with 39 combined world and Olympic medals.

Biles’ achievement is all the more impressive given that she is the first woman to win non-consecutive Olympic gold medals in the event. Her teammate Suni Lee also made history by becoming the first former gold medalist to make it back to the podium since Nadia Comaneci in 1980.

Kevin Durant left in awe by Simone Biles’ impressive vault at Olympics

Kevin Durant was in attendance to watch Simone Biles compete in the women’s gymnastics all-around and was left impressed by her performance. Durant spoke to Nick McCarvel of Olympics.com and was a bit jealous of the legendary Biles.

That was nice. It's the first time I'm seeing her live. I wish I had that kind of muscle in my calves. I'm going to have to get in the gym for that.
Kevin Durant said to Nick McCarvel

Biles’ vault scored an impressive 15.766, outdoing her closest competitor, Rebeca Andrade, who earned a 15.100. The two gymnasts have been neck and neck throughout the competition, with Durant and other celebrities in attendance to witness the excitement.

Durant will have the chance to showcase his own athletic abilities on Saturday when Team USA takes on Puerto Rico in their final group stage game. The Americans are currently 2-0 and lead Group C after convincing wins over Serbia and South Sudan.
