Jannik Sinner is now a three-time Grand Slam champion at the age of 23. But he still has a long way to go to reach the level of the three tennis greats, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.
Sinner, who won his career’s first Major at the Australian Open last year and breezed past Taylor Fritz in the 2024 US Open final, defended the title Down Under without breaking a sweat. The final, which lasted for two hours and 42 minutes, saw the World No.1 prevail over Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3.
Sinner, undoubtedly, will have to play a high level of tennis consistently for the next few years and will have to keep injuries at bay to win more majors. His coach Simone Vagnozzi, who joined his team in 2022, said Sinner is still young but is one of those players who can emulate what the Big 3 has achieved.
Under Vagnozzi and Darren Cahill, Sinner became a three-time Grand Slam champion, won the 2024 ATP Finals, and also reached the top of the rankings.
Jannik Sinner explains why second Australian Open title is different
Jannik Sinner had recovered from two sets down to beat Daniil Medvedev in last year’s Australian Open final. Although he had an almost smooth campaign at the Melbourne Slam this season, his win this time feels different.
Sinner has now become the eighth man in the Open Era to win his first three Grand Slam singles finals. He is also on a 21-match win streak at hard-court Majors and has also become the fifth player in the Open Era to win three Majors on hard-court on the trot.
