Cris Carter, a Hall of Fame wide receiver, has criticized Skip Bayless for allegedly exploiting Black culture during his time at Fox Sports. Carter made the comments on the latest episode of his Fully Loaded podcast, where he accused Bayless of adopting certain symbols of Black culture, such as wearing Jordan brand sneakers and gold chains, to appear more relatable to his audience.
Carter also questioned the authenticity of Bayless’ relationship with rapper Lil Wayne, who created theme songs for Bayless’ show Undisputed. The Hall of Famer believes that Skip Bayless used his Black co-hosts, including Shannon Sharpe, to gain credibility and support from Black viewers.
You know to me, he took advantage of black culture. Like, he tried to tap into things. Like, he started wearing a gold chain. He started wearing Jordans on the show. There’s no way you and Lil Wayne could be close.Cris Carter said on Fully Loaded
According to Carter, Bayless’ actions are a form of exploitation, where he benefits from Black culture without genuinely understanding or respecting it. Carter’s comments are not surprising, given Bayless’ history of making controversial and personal comments about athletes on his show.
Carter’s criticism is just the latest example of athletes pushing back against Bayless’ style. Sharpe’s departure from FS1 was reportedly due in part to Bayless’ disrespect towards him, and Carter’s comments on his podcast highlight the ongoing debate.
Cris Carter also mentioned he once threatened to punch Skip Bayless over on-air insult
Cris Carter also on the Fully Loaded podcast revealed that he once threatened to punch Skip Bayless in the face after the latter brought up Carter’s lack of a Super Bowl win during a debate about Tim Tebow’s quarterbacking skills on First Take. Carter was defending his opinion that Tebow would never be a starting quarterback, and Bayless responded by questioning Carter’s credibility due to not winning a Super Bowl.
Carter then shared how he angrily reacted to the controversial host. This incident is not the first time Bayless has been involved in a heated exchange with a co-host or guest.
He came back and said, 'Well, that's why you didn't win a Super Bowl,' which got nothing to do with nothing… 'I'll never be on your show again, and if you ever say anything like that to me again, I'll punch you right in the f--king face.'Cris Carter added
Bayless’ constant praise of Tebow during his time with the Denver Broncos helped launch his career, and he has been known for his outspoken and often controversial opinions. He recently announced his departure from FS1 to pursue other opportunities.
