The Dallas Mavericks Luka Doncic is currently under a lot of fire for his embarrassing finals loss. Considering the season the Slovenian had, a loss in just five games did not sit well with many. The opinions about Doncic’s credibility have changed drastically among analysts and fans. Skip Bayless being one of them, recently expressed his disappointment towards Doncic.

Skip Bayless has supported Luka Doncic throughout this season. Especially, during the finals despite the team losing the first three games. Hence, the analyst’s reaction was only natural as he had high expectations from the player. During an episode of Undisputed, Bayless went off on Doncic and even stated that he has lost respect for the player. 

I lost respect for Luka because I had gained so much this year during the regular season… He has been a horrible shooter for years. But all of a sudden he went to somebody's lab last offseason and he came back dramatically improved.

Bayless admitted that he was not Doncic’s biggest fan in the last five years. The analyst ‘laughed’ at Doncic’s shooting, free throws, and even Larry Bird comparisons but it all changed in the regular season. However, it did not last long as Doncic’s three-point shooting in the playoffs again changed Bayless’ opinion. Doncic’s performance going downhill during a crucial time was the reason he lost respect for the star.

Skip Bayless supported the Mavericks despite the 0-3 deficit

Considering the Mavericks were the fifth seed in the tough Western Conference, their journey to the final was certainly impressive. Hence, many had high expectations for their finals performance, especially Doncic’s as it was his first appearance. But the team lost three consecutive games and their chances at winning the championship.

However, despite the deficit, Bayless had faith in the team. According to the analyst, the team had better performances in the fourth quarter than the Celtics. However, the only issue was the team’s failure to close the games out. 

I have now watched back-to-back games in which the Mavericks made big runs at you in the fourth quarter and fell short, and that’s why it’s 3-0.

Bayless did make it clear that the team might not win the series but the Mavericks would win the fourth game. The analyst was right as the team overcame their poor first half of the previous games and dominated the Celtics to get a historic win. But to Bayless’ disappointment that was Doncic’s only win in the series.
