After the NBA Finals concluded, it was time for analysts and the media in general to revert to topics that draw the most views. Naturally, LeBron James and his future would be at the top of any list.

The 41-year-old has not yet made his intentions clear about his future, and is going to take time to decide what he wants to do.

Now that concerns about his future in the sport have been cleared, most conversations are about which team he can go to and fight for a title.

The Lakers are an obvious choice, as they can afford whatever the father of three wants in terms of salary. Any other contender will have to make major adjustments to their existing roster to carve out the cap space required to sign James.

He has ruled out the possibility of playing for a non-contender. That alone narrows down possibilities. However, one team that is a contender and could have the cap space has not been discussed until now.

If you could have LeBron play point for them 30 minutes a night, they would be much better to me. His greatest strength is passing and distributing. He could average easy 10, 11, 12 assists a night with that team. But it would be a big, bold, gutsy move.

Skip Bayless said on Gil’s Arena

By suggesting this, the longtime analyst hypothetically solved two of the San Antonio Spurs’ most telling problems. They get a big-bodied playmaker and a veteran with championship experience who can teach the young team how to perform when the going gets tough.

LeBron James’ critic acknowledges Spurs move would be good for both sides

So far, most of the discussions about a potential destination for LeBron James have been either the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Golden State Warriors.

The King might prefer to play alongside his longtime rival in Stephen Curry. But this proposition to join the San Antonio Spurs was good enough that one of his staunch critics appreciated Skip Bayless for suggesting this.

I like that… It makes basketball sense… You need a point guard, a bigger guy on the floor. You need a facilitator. You need a guy that’s won, teach them dudes, how to close games.

The former first-overall pick acknowledged that there would be some salary cap concerns. To this, Bayless also agreed that LeBron James taking the veteran minimum will help the Spurs keep most of the team.

Otherwise, this fit made sense for Martin Sr. as he believes the young Western Conference champions need a veteran leader to show them the ropes. Chris Paul used to do that, but now he is retired. In his place, his fellow banana boat crew member can do the same.

LeBron James likely going back to Lakers

Even though the mere thought of joining the San Antonio Spurs would boost betting odds of them winning the title next season, it is highly unlikely that LeBron James would leave his established life and career in Los Angeles, unless he has no choice.

I’m hearing that he’s likely coming back… I’m also hearing that one of his old teammates from Cleveland, Kevin Love, could likely be joining the Lakers, too.

Marc J. Spears said on NBA Today

The analyst is one of the most well-connected journalists in the business. Therefore, it is likely that he has heard what would eventually happen.

It makes sense for all parties involved, as not only will James get to continue with his career with the Lakers, but he could also set it up for his retirement.

Then, if he were to have one of his closest friends alongside him, it would make it all the better for the four-time league MVP to wind down on his illustrious career.
