Emma Raducanu recently spoke about the importance of self-care and life after retirement in a recent interview. The 21-year-old, who recently returned from injury, is trying her best to get back to her old form.
The 2021 US Open champion created history by fighting her way from the qualifiers to win her maiden Grand Slam at the age of 18. After that, she has failed to perform at her best due to recurring injuries. She suffered an ankle and wrist injury, which held her back from playing for more than a year.
While she lost some time trying to figure herself out, Raducanu understood that there was more to life than tennis and that she was learning a lot about her journey. She revealed that she still has 10-15 years on tour and has a lot more to do in life after tennis.
There’s also a big chunk of life that happens after tennis. We think when we hit 35, our life is over, but there is so much still to come - many people are just starting their life at that point. So, of course I want to make the most out of the years that I have on tour, but I also need to keep in perspective that there are other things in life than just tennis.Emma Raducanu said (via MC UK)
She recently decided to skip the Paris Olympics and took part in the Citi Open instead, where she lost to Paula Badosa in the quarterfinals.
Emma Raducanu reveals the piece of advice that guides her through life
Emma Raducanu has fought many battles in her life. From important tennis matches to recovery from various injuries, she has turned to the movie “Finding Nemo” as a source of inspiration.
In the same interview, Raducanu revealed that she and her mother used to watch that movie from where she picked up the famous line that read “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming”. Her mother used to say this to her daughter, which eventually became a major piece of advice for her to always fall back on.
The fish would say, “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming”, and my mum has repeated that to me ever since. Even now, it’s like no matter what happens, you just have to keep swimming - you have to keep going and forget about it.Emma Raducanu said (via MK UK)
Nonetheless, the Brit has had an improved run this year. She finally made it into the Top 100 and is on her way to finding her best form. She has pulled out of the Cincinnati Open and will continue playing in other tournaments before heading into the US Open.
