Stan Wawrinka found it hilarious that Jannik Sinner claimed that he did not go to Saudi Arabia to play for money. The Italian, who won the biggest prize money in the history of the sport (although it was not an official tournament) in Riyadh after winning the Six Kings Slam title, has claimed that he does not play for money.

As Sinner is headed to participate in the ATP 1000 tournament in Paris, he sat down for an interview with Eurosport wherein he talked about his rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz and the massive prize money he won in Riyadh. When asked about his feelings after getting the biggest cheque in tennis history, Sinner said he does not play for money.

The 23-year-old claimed that he went to Saudi Arabia because he did not want to miss out on the experience of playing with five top players on the tour. Sinner said that playing at the exhibition event in Riyadh helped him measure himself.

I don’t play for money. It’s very simple. Of course, it’s a nice prize, but I went there because there was possibly the six best players in the world and you can measure yourself with them. It was also a nice event. I played the matches in the right way and this can hopefully improve me as a player also for the future.

This remark from Sinner elicited an interesting response from Wawrinka. The three-time Grand Slam champion shared a laughing emoji on X, reacting to the post about Sinner’s comments.

As Stan Wawrinka laughed at Jannik Sinner, netizens joined the bandwagon in criticizing the Italian. Most of them took a shot at the World No. 1, claiming that he was lying.

A user claimed that it was a “bold face lie“. Another said if it was not for money, Sinner should donate the prize money. “Happy to play an exhibition in a country ruled by a controversial regime, but doesn’t play for the money So he will donate all of it?” wrote another user.
