Why Stefanos Tsitsipas always loses to Carlos Alcaraz? The Greek, with a 0-5 head-to-head record, faced Alcaraz in the Roland Garros quarterfinal and ended up losing it as well. After the match, Tsitsipas explained why Alcaraz was so successful against him.
Tsitsipas used everything to try to beat Alcaraz for the first time but in vain. He was super confident after his four-set win over Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi, and that hurt him more when succumbed to defeat easily in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(7-3), 6-4 against the Spanish youngster. The World No. 9 explained later what set Alcaraz apart from the other players.
I feel like his shot is deep and has a lot of topspin to it, and I just haven’t been able to come up with something good. He, in a way, overpowers me, but he’s also patient enough to do it in a very constructive way. He’s a fast guy. He tends to get a lot of balls back that other opponents wouldn’t otherwise get. He’s trouble.Stefanos Tsitsipas said at the press conference
Tsitsipas also compared Alcaraz with Novak Djokovic, who withdrew before his quarterfinal clash with Casper Ruud due to a knee injury and is likely to miss Wimbledon as well after surgery in Paris. The Greek will still be playing in Paris in the doubles event alongside brother Petros Tsitsipas.
Carlos Alcaraz sets up Jannik Sinner clash after win over Stefanos Tsitsipas
One of the electrifying clashes the tennis fraternity was eagerly waiting for will be played on June 7. After his quarterfinal win over Stefanos Tsitsipas, Carlos Alcaraz will be locking horns with Italy’s Jannik Sinner in the semifinal.
Both the players will be fighting it out for their maiden Roland Garros title. While Alcaraz advanced into the semifinal in Paris last year for the first time, Sinner will be playing his first match in the last four.
The winner of the semifinal will have a career head-to-head record of 5-4 and 2-1 in Grand Slam events. They first met in a Grand Slam event back in 2022 at the Wimbledon Championships fourth round where Sinner beat the Spaniard in four sets. Then in the 2022 US Open quarterfinal, Alcaraz overcame the Italian in five sets and went on to win his first Grand Slam title.
Sinner will also be the World No.1 next week as Novak Djokovic pulled out of the tournament. Djokovic, who defeated Casper Ruud in last year’s Roland Garros final, had to defend 2000 points by reaching the final. Sinner was World No.4 earlier this season, but his three titles, including the Australian Open, have assured him of the No.1 spot in the rankings.
