Stefanos Tsitsipas has posted an update regarding his fitness following a recent report that claimed he had undergone back surgery and was going to.be out for a while. The 27-year-old is going through a difficult campaign this season, which has been marred by poor performance on the court and injuries.
Tsitsipas has been dealing with a back injury for quite some years now, but it got worse during his training session at the Wimbledon Championship. The former World No.3 was training with Jannik Sinner at the All England Club when he noticed a serious pain in his back. That forced him to retire from his opening match at the major tournament.
However, he returned to the court at the Canadian Open in Toronto but still struggled to play his best performance. The Greek star then won only one match at the US Open before losing to Daniel Altmaier in the second round in a five-set thriller. He returned to the court at the Davis Cup in his home country days later.
There were expectations that he would lead his country to a victory over Brazil at the Davis Cup qualifiers. But the World No.27 fell to Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca which ultimately led to Greece losing to Brazil 1-3. A few days ago, a Greek outlet reported that Tsitsipas had undergone lower back surgery to address his problem.
The report also added that the surgery was successful and that Tsitsipas’ recovery will take up to two to six weeks. But on Monday (September 22), Tsitsipas revealed in an Instagram statement that the report was false. The former French Open finalist added that he was doing fine:
Dear friends and supporters, in light of recent reports, I would like to clarify that I have not undergone back surgery and I am doing well. I am deeply grateful for your kind messages and continued support. Your concern means a great deal to me.

Tsitsipas has withdrawn from the China Open, which kicks off this week in Beijing. That might have been one of the reasons the report was falsely written. However, before playing the Davis Cup qualifiers, he revealed that the reason he struggled at the US Open was due to his recurrent back problem. He hopes to bring a lasting solution to the issue before the Six Kings Slam exhibition tournament in October.
Stefanos Tsitsipas aims to disconnect from social media after a poor run of form this season
Stefanos Tsitsipas has struggled on the court this season, managing to win just 22 of his 40 matches on tour. It is the lowest win percentage that he has managed to register since he turned pro in 2016. The former World No.3 has been to only one final on tour this season and failed to defend the Monte Carlo Masters in April.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, he revealed that one of the major reasons for his struggles on the court was using social media more often. The 27-year-old added that he has made a decision to disconnect from social media:
Lately, with all the traveling and stress I’ve been going through, I’ve found my peace by disconnecting from stress through social media, which is wrong. My goal is to show that I’m quitting social media and give young people , whether they play sports or not, an incentive to get out there too.
Tsitsipas finished the season winning only two Grand Slam matches and never reached the third round of a major tournament. The World No.27 didn’t win a single match at the Australian Open and Wimbledon Championship, making it the worst Grand Slam outing of his professional career.
