Stefon Diggs hoped he was just going to earn a major last paycheck with the New England Patriots. After all, it becomes difficult to hold down a job in the NFL, as is the case with wide receivers on the wrong side of 30.
He knew the franchise was on the verge of a rebuild, and expected him to be the top superstar at least until someone overtakes him. Now, he has been overtaken by his young quarterback, Drake Maye, who has vaulted to the top of the MVP race after Week 17.
Thankfully, this time, Stefon Diggs has been supportive and appreciative of his signal caller, often praising him for all the good things he has done this season.
Now, the 32-year-old might want to avoid the media for a while after he found himself in a bit of a soup. As per WCVB5, the recently turned father of Cardi B‘s son has been charged with ‘felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges.’
The network detailed that the incident took place on December 2 when the Patriots star allegedly ‘smacked’ a chef over a paycheck dispute.
According to court documents, Diggs then “tried to choke her using the crook of his elbow around her neck.”
WCVB5 detailed
The star pass catcher apparently hired the cook to work throughout the NFL season. However, she claimed that Stefon Diggs owed her a month’s pay, and the argument ended up ‘angering’ the Patriots star.
Stefon Diggs denies accusations
This is not the first time Stefon Diggs has been facing charges. This time, through his attorney, he has openly denied the allegations brought forward by his former chef, as quoted by WCVB5.
Stefon Diggs categorically denies these allegations. They are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated — because they did not occur. The timing and motivation for making the allegations is crystal clear: they are the direct result of an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee’s satisfaction. Stefon looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law.

The Patriots also released a statement mentioning that they are supporting their top offensive weapon. So did the NFL, which claimed that it is in constant touch with the franchise and the players’ representatives.
Now that this has become national attention, Diggs might as well not appear in front of the media for a while, as questions about this will become the focus of every reporter on Patriots’ duty.
Even before the turn of the new year, it seems 2025 has seen several controversies follow the 4-time Pro Bowler. He might be having the time of his life, but these instances are impacting his reputation.
Stefon Diggs’ reputation with Patriots might not waver
When the New England Patriots signed Stefon Diggs to a $69 million deal, they knew what they were getting into. After all, this was the same wide receiver who seemingly clashed with Josh Allen during his time with the Buffalo Bills.

They probably felt that a mature Diggs would not be as much of a hindrance to the young roster. Their belief turned out to be true, as the de facto leader of the team, the Maryland native, has rallied his troops to a joint league-best 13-3 record.
When an accomplished superstar talks, the team generally follows suit, and that could be why Diggs’ reputation with the Patriots might not waver. Unless forced by law, they need him to help the young roster improve.
Owner Robert Kraft wants his franchise to go back to the old glory days when Tom Brady and Bill Belichick dominated the league. Maybe the organization is about to go back to those ways with a mercurial wide receiver leading them.
