Former Golden State Warriors legend Klay Thompson won 4 NBA titles with them in his 13-year tenure. However, in July 2024, Thompson parted ways with the Warriors after failing to agree to contract extension terms with his former side. Thompson eventually signed with the Dallas Mavericks side in the Western Conference on a three-year $50 million deal.

Most recently, Thompson returned to the Chase Center for the first time after leaving them in July. He was greeted and welcomed with ‘much love’ by the Warriors fans and his former teammates.

Especially his former ‘Splash Bro’ Stephen Curry and dear friend Draymond Green. As Thompson made his way onto the court, the Warriors showcased a heartfelt tribute video.

Curry and Green both reacted to Thompson’s video with immense love and were spotted clapping and cheering for their former teammate. To celebrate his “Captain Klay” moniker, Warriors supporters all donned captain’s hats. They gave him a standing ovation before the Warriors vs. Mavs NBA Cup match.

Thompson, who will probably have his jersey retired one day as one of the team’s all-time great players, made it clear how much the moment meant to him.

As for the Mavs, they have welcomed Thompson with open arms on their roster. He has been a crucial addition to their squad and has been performing admirably since he arrived during the offseason.

As per reports, before this game, Curry was also scheduled to address the audience about Thompson. But he and Thompson discussed the idea and decided against it.

It’s important to note that Thompson reportedly asked the Warriors for a two-year, $40 million contract before joining the Mavericks, but they turned him down. With ten starts and an average of 13.8 points per game, he has proven his versatility and ongoing talent in Dallas.
