Stephen Curry has accepted that the Golden State Warriors will not be teaming up with LeBron James after the four-time NBA champion chose the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2026-27 season.

James’ decision ended a weeks-long free agency saga that included the Warriors among his potential destinations. Curry and Draymond Green were viewed as possible advantages for Golden State because of their friendship with James and their history together on the U.S. Olympic team.

Curry addressed James’ decision Saturday while speaking at Moses Moody’s youth camp.

That’s why you don’t envision anything until it happens. There are a lot of moving parts. The through line, which is hard on anybody in this situation, especially with us keeping this thing together, is knowing that when Jimmy got hurt and Moses got hurt, the whole calculus of everything changes. How do you get through their absence and still stay at a certain level? And then how that goes into this year. It’s the same deal. So, I’m a realist on that.… We don’t live in any alternative universe.

James is set to join a Philadelphia roster featuring Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and VJ Edgecombe. The move gives the 41-year-old another opportunity to compete for a 5th championship late in his career.

The Warriors, meanwhile, must move forward without the veteran superstar they had hoped could help strengthen their roster around Curry.

Curry also discussed the challenges facing Golden State after injuries to Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody changed the team’s outlook. Butler suffered a torn ACL, while Moody is recovering from a torn patellar tendon.

The Warriors now enter the next phase of the offseason without James. Their focus shifts to managing the roster while Butler and Moody recover and preparing for the upcoming season with Curry and Green continuing to lead the team.

Proposed trade could give Warriors a new path after LeBron James decided to choose the 76ers

With LeBron James no longer available, one proposed solution would see the Golden State Warriors pursue a major trade instead of waiting for Jimmy Butler to return from his injury.

One suggested deal would send Butler, two future first-round picks and a second-round pick to the Dallas Mavericks. In return, the Warriors would acquire Klay Thompson, Naji Marshall, P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford.

The proposal would reunite Thompson with Curry after the longtime Warriors teammates separated in free agency in 2024. Thompson averaged 11.7 points per game while shooting 38.3% from three-point range for Dallas last season.

Washington averaged 14.2 points and 7.0 rebounds last season. Marshall posted 15.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game, while Gafford averaged 9.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks.

The proposed trade would give Golden State additional depth across the wing and frontcourt while adding another experienced scorer in Thompson. The deal would also give Dallas Butler and additional draft compensation as the Mavericks continue reshaping their roster.

The proposal remains a hypothetical trade scenario. The Warriors’ immediate offseason priorities remain their roster construction and the eventual returns of Butler and Moody.
