Stephen A. Smith cites Donald Trump's political controversies while discussing WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark's race issue

The racial divide engulfing the WNBA is at its peak. Especially considering that all the notions run through Caitlin Clark. The Indiana Fever rookie wants all the narratives to cease, considering it has nothing to do with basketball.

However, compatriot and defensive thorn DiJonai Carrington does not feel so. Now, to clarify the situation, Stephen A. Smith brought Donald Trump‘s political controversies into the mix. Smith alluded that Caitlin Clark as a person is not the problem. But Caitlin Clark the figure is the problem when it comes to discussions regarding race.

She’s a white young lady and she’s been a magnet that has benefitted the league in ways that others have not. You have somebody that’s a presidential candidate. What is his claim to fame? Make America Great Again. What have people interpreted that to mean? Make America White Again. What has that led to? A divide.
Stephen A. Smith said

He used Presidential candidate Donald Trump‘s slogan as an example to illustrate that the racial divide is not anywhere close to being fixed. Instead, people will feed off the narrative based on what is available.

This means, Caitlin Clark will get massive followers and support. Even though it’s mostly for her game, Stephen A. Smith believes she will get more people to watch her than the other black players in the league. But Caitlin Clark unknowingly gets pulled into this race narrative even if she has not been a part of it. People will use her name to discuss the differences in race and what they bring to the table.

Caitlin Clark has a long way to go before becoming the best player in the WNBA

In her college career, Caitlin Clark worked hard and became the best player in the entire NCAA D1 women’s basketball program. But after entering the WNBA, she has found herself behind several of them. This is one of the reasons, she was not selected to the Team USA Olympics roster.

It is natural for college stars to struggle in the pros initially. But Clark knows that she cannot take forever to get better. Yes, the mere fact that she has been playing basketball constantly for the past 9 months has affected her development. Therefore, she will need time to develop. The first chance of which, will come during the Olympics break.

Not only will she get much-needed rest, but she will also have the opportunity to practice and develop her game alongside her Indiana Fever teammates. Therefore, the real growth of Caitlin Clark will be visible after the season resumes in August.
