Stephen A. Smith has once again become the talk of the town. The ESPN analyst went on a surprising rant against Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout and called him out on Wednesday after he got injured once again.

Trout, 32, on Tuesday informed that he had torn his meniscus in his knee and will require surgery. As of yet, there is no timeline on his return. This injury to him comes at a time when he was in red-hot form and was leading the home run charts alongside Gunnar Henderson with ten.

While the fans were quick to wish Trout a speedy recovery, Smith had some bold words for him. During the episode of “First Take“, the 56-year-old would question how does Trout keep on getting injured again and again.

The three-time American League MVP has dealt with some major injuries in the past few seasons. Last season he would fracture his wrist, whereas in 2022, he suffered a strain in his right calf. All of this injuries lead to this fierce take from Stephen A. Smith.

Mike Trout is sensational when healthy. One of the greats, he truly is. But I've grown disgusted with his lack of availability. What the heck are you doing to take care of yourself? Always injured. I mean, damn, it's baseball. What are we talking about here? It's not football. It's not boxing. It's not the UFC.

Smith though was not done there. He would strangely go on to say that this was perhaps “karma” for Trout for sticking with the LA Angels and signing that massive contract extension.

Maybe it's karma for him that he stayed with the Angels. Maybe it's karma for him that he signed with that damned moribund franchise.

This though is not the first time when Smith has attacked the Angels. In July 2023, he would take a dig at that team and call them “irrelevant” as rumors of a $50 million trade of Shohei Ohtani had surfaced up.

Since the clip of Stephen A. Smith‘s comments regarding Mike Trout went viral, fans on X have attacked the analyst. Many came into the defense of the baseball star and called out Smith for his take.

While one person claimed that Smith does something like this once a year, another user suggested that he should have stopped talking about baseball after his “horrendous” ceremonial first pitch during a Yankees-Blue Jays game in 2023. Meanwhile, one user did not hold back and labeled him an “idiot“.
