Stephen A. Smith has been witnessing the dire situation developing at the Miami Dolphins. Head coach Mike McDaniel and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa are under increasing pressure after a difficult start to their season.

They were supposed to at least be mid-tier if not playoff caliber at this stage of the campaign. However, after their embarrassing loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football (October 30), it seemed as if the writing was on the wall.

Their fans’ booing was seen as the last resort, and owner Stephen M. Ross, in his first major decision this season, decided to let go of GM Chris Grier. That decision did not sit well with the other Stephen A.

That’s the first fire, really? … It was about Tua, it was about Mike McDaniel. And the brother gets fired first? I’d better hear Mike McDaniel’s name today… It better not be just Chris Grier.

Stephen A. Smith said on First Take

The longtime analyst clarified that he understands why Grier was let go, as his personnel decisions over the past seasons have been lacking. However, he believed the ‘brother’ was not the only one who needed to be fired.

He then talked about how Black people have had trouble finding top jobs in the NFL, and this was visible proof that the Dolphins owner, Stephen M. Ross, made a decision based on race. That too, because it was confirmed that Mike McDaniel would keep his job for the rest of the season.

Fans flame Stephen A. Smith for uninformed racist take on Mike McDaniel

Whenever Stephen A. Smith goes on a rant on First Take, it is natural for those clips to go viral on social media. Since this involves an opinion about racial bias, it was going to find even more traction.

On top of that, if that racism-based opinion was uninformed, then fans would not stop to school the ESPN executive producer. They reiterated that Smith is completely ignorant of the fact that Mike McDaniel is half-Black.

This proved to them that the 58-year-old says what he wants to without fact-checking. Fans proceeded to light up social media with reactions, examples of which are listed below:

Stephen A. Smith has a reputation for speaking without knowing the complete facts. He is also known for intentionally rage-baiting to try to improve ratings. In this situation, it might be either, or a mix of both.

Cam Newton pins blame on Tua Tagovailoa instead of Mike McDaniel

During their discussion, Stephen A. Smith made a point that, the way the Miami Dolphins are playing, it is clear they are not being led correctly. That, he believes, is why Mike McDaniel should go. But his colleague, Cam Newton, had a different opinion.

It’s Tua! It’s not Mike McDaniel, it’s not even Chris Grier… Don’t be surprised if Mike McDaniel made the executive decision to bench Tua.

Cam Newton said

He believes that had Tua Tagovailoa played decently, the Miami Dolphins would have won more games, and Chris Grier’s and Mike McDaniel’s jobs would be safe. Hearing this, Smith jumped to go on another racially-fueled barb.

I’m glad you brought that up. That’s what I’m worried about. Here’s my problem. If you are saying it’s Tua, then that means you are actually thinking about keeping Mike McDaniel past this season. ‘Oh, it’s the QB, not the coach, it’s the GM, not the coach.’ Really? That’s what we are doing?

Stephen A. Smith said

He then went on to say that if the QB should follow the GM out of the Dolphins, so should the head coach. Smith wants owner Stephen M. Ross to clean house and start over.
