After leaving the Golden State Warriors, Klay Thompson became one of the best free agents in the market. Many teams tried to get Thompson including the Los Angeles Lakers. But Thompson rejected the Lakers’ offer and decided to go with the Dallas Mavericks.

Dallas managed to sign Thompson to a $50 million contract. Stephen A. Smith recently talked about Thompson’s big move of rejecting the Lakers. He also discussed some reasons why Klay Thompson went with the Mavericks and declined the Lakers.

The fact that the Lakers, while they were like top-10 in three-point shooting percentage, they were 28th in three-pointers attempted.

Smith reported that the Lakers were 28th in three-pointers attempted. This according to him made Thompson think he could not get the ball enough from his Lakers teammates as he used to in his time in the Golden State Warriors. He also opined that the rivalry between the Warriors and the Lakers might be one of the reasons why he didn’t choose the Lakers.

Dallas would be a great fit for Thompson. In the NBA finals, they lacked a veteran shooter in their lineup. So Thompson can improve that and make them a stronger team with his shooting powers and experience.

Klay Thompson asked Stephen Curry not to pressurize the Warriors management into keeping him

After a great career that included 4 championships and countless memorable moments, 5-time All-Star Klay Thompson has decided to leave the Warriors after 13 years. Thompson has decided to sign a deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

Many things led to Thompson leaving the Warriors. But the main reason was the Warriors did not offer Thompson a max deal whereas their young superstars got one. Thompson also told his teammate and good friend, Stephen Curry not to pressurize the management. He told he wanted a contract on his own merit and not with any help.

But after the Warriors declined to give Thompson the max deal, he finally decided it was time to leave. The Warriors weren’t in a position to give Thompson a max deal as he had a few poor seasons in the last years with averages of less than 20 points.
