Stephen Curry wants to continue winning, so could leave Golden State Warriors if they become bottom feeder team

Since the introduction of a salary cap, very few players in the NBA have ended their careers with the same team they started. Finances or the desire to continue winning has seen many switch teams. Stephen Curry has already stated that he wants to be a part of the Golden State Warriors until the end of his career. However, one scenario could force him to leave.

The four-time champion sat down with Marc J. Spears of Andscape for an interview. When asked if he sees himself playing out his career with the Warriors, Stephen Curry said;

I want to win. Let’s put it this way, it’s a longwinded way of saying that it if it is a situation where you’re a bottom feeder and it’s just because you want to stay there, I’d have a hard time with that. But I don’t think that’s going to be the reality.

Those comments suggest he will leave the door open. Just in case the Warriors become a bottom-feeder team. He wants to continue winning until he retires.

He knows how Hall of Famers Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki played on some of the worst teams of their careers before retiring. All in the need to continue playing for the same team they started with. But it is clear from Stephen Curry’s words that he would not want that.

The 2-time league MVP also stated that it is highly unlikely that he will leave. He knows that the Golden State Warriors are built to continue winning and reaching the playoffs.

Stephen Curry needs one more star to compete for NBA titles

Last season, the Warriors ended their season early after losing in the play-in games. Then, they lost one of their core members in Klay Thompson in free agency. They also lost Chris Paul and were left with a team in need of reinforcements. Kyle Anderson and Buddy Hield are good enough to cover for those two losses.

However, Stephen Curry and his teammates know that they need one more star. The obvious candidate right now is Lauri Markkanen. However, the Utah Jazz are playing hardball as they are looking to cash in with the demand. Markkanen will give them that additional scoring they need. But that said, there is a chance they miss out on him.

If the younger players develop, they could still take a shot at the NBA title. But with the way the rest of the contenders have improved their rosters, the Golden State Warriors will need to find that third star. Otherwise, they could be looking at a time in the future when their leading superstar walks.
