- Kerr clarified that neither Green nor Stephen Curry influenced his decision to return as head coach of the Warriors.
Up until a few days ago, Draymond Green stoked some conversations about a potential beef with Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.
The forward did praise the 60-year-old for helping him build a Hall of Fame-worthy career. At the same time, Green criticized Kerr for not developing his offensive game.
The Michigan native cited how his head coach has not drawn up an offensive play designed to let him score. He did receive some backlash for this, as many felt he was being ungrateful.
Those feelings continued when the 36-year-old highlighted how his past arguments with Steve Kerr left him wondering whether his team leader ‘liked’ him. When 95.7 The Game asked the head coach this question, he replied:
I love Draymond. Are you kidding me? When you have a brother, and you get into fights sometimes, you still love your brother. That’s all that is. I wouldn’t read too much into that.
Steve Kerr replied
This was the nine-time NBA champion, making it clear that he and Draymond Green are like brothers, and it is normal for them to clash over many things basketball.
"I love Draymond. Are you kidding me?" 🤗

The former Defensive Player of the Year has indeed mentioned how his coach helped him get through his darkest times when he was thinking about retiring after his string of violent actions. Kerr sitting with him at his home was one of the things that helped Green get into league-mandated counseling. That helped him return to the court, and so far, the latter has stayed trouble-free.
Steve Kerr credits his wife for returning to the Warriors
One of the things that Draymond Green touched upon after the Warriors ended their season at the play-in stage was whether this was the end of the road for Steve Kerr.
He, as did basketball fans, believed that the latter’s post-game embrace and conversation signaled the end of the coach’s illustrious career. Now, he has returned, and when asked what led him to make this decision, Kerr replied:
My wife said something, ‘You might coach again someday, but you’ll never coach the Warriors again.’ That was really meaningful to me.
What he meant is that his wife reminded Steve Kerr that if he does return to coaching at some point down the line, it would likely not be with the Warriors.

That is because by the time he returns, the core of Green, Stephen Curry, and Jimmy Butler may have retired. At that point, the coach would not have wanted to take a chance with whatever team the Warriors had.
His relationship with the trio, and Klay Thompson previously, would mentally prevent him from returning to the franchise that helped him become an all-time great coach.
Stephen Curry did not force Warriors to bring Steve Kerr back
At this press conference, reporters also asked Kerr whether Green and Curry influenced the Warriors’ owners and top brass to hire their coach back.

I was in touch with both of them. They did not have any impact or influence on whether I was going to be the coach… It usually does not work out well when a player wants to dictate what an organization does. Steph has always recognized the sanctity of that wall.
Kerr revealed
Kerr’s answer makes it clear that neither of his top two players tried to influence any decision. It also makes it clear that owner Joe Lacob and GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. wanted him back.
