“Such one-sided matches are a joke” – Ramiz Raja asks Zimbabwe to quit Test format for sometime

Former Pakistan cricket legend Ramiz Raja has slammed the Zimbabwe National team and the opposition countries playing test format against them as they are completely one sided matches which makes the viewers lose interest and move on to other sports including Football.

Zimbabwe has shown very poor standard of performance in the recently ongoing Pakistan’s tour of Zimbabwe as the hosts already suffered a 2-1 T20 series defeat which was followed by the Test series where they were again completely obliterated over two tests.

Ramiz Raja spoke about the same and said on his YouTube channel, “Such mismatch series should not take place. Test cricket is already under pressure and very few people watch it. If you show them such one-sided matches, then they will switch to watching football or other sports. Three-day Test match is a joke.”

He further said that such mismatched series should not take place like this ongoing series where there is no ray of hope for Zimbabwe to even put up a fight against the in-form Pakistan team.

The longest format of test cricket ending within 3 days is not a good sign for Test format as the viewers are already less compared to other shorter formats of test Cricket, and such one – sided matches make viewers heavily criticize the purpose of a 5 day test format subsequently lose interest and move on to other sports like Football.

“Some people are of opinion that weak teams should not look at the scorecard when they are playing against the top teams because they get to learn a lot of things. How stronger teams go on with their game, what is the process behind their thinking, how do they adapt to different situations? But Zimbabwe has learned nothing from the ongoing Test series against Pakistan as they carried on with their poor performance in the second match by repeating the same mistakes,” he further said.

Raja added that in 1992, Zimbabwe was a real competitive side consisting of 3-4 match winners such as Andy Flower who could turn around the game single handedly. But the quality of players in the Zimbabwe national team constantly declined as time went on due to lack of system to find and enhance talents.
