Mike Norvell watched in utter silence as DJ Uiagalelei failed to stop the Florida Seminoles from losing their third straight game at the start of the 2024 college football season. The Noles can’t seem to lose their bad luck.
Their opponents on the night, the Memphis Tigers, on the other hand, won their first two games. However, Norvell’s team was still the favorite to break the circle of losses. While the defense improved from previous outings, they still gave up 20 points to the Tigers.
During the post-game press conference, Mike Norvell spoke about the disappointment of losing to another non-ranked team even after going 13-1 last season. He couldn’t finish his speech when the fire alarm started humming. They had to cut the Q&A session as Norvell left abruptly.

Mike Norvell is disappointed by FSU’s 0-3 start to the season but vows to come back stronger
After losing their first two games to non-ranked Georgia Tech and Boston College, the pressure was on the Noles to deliver. Memphis seemed like the perfect team to start a revival because the Noles may find wins hard to come by after them.
Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei started shaky but looked okay in the first few plays until the offensive line became Swiss cheese. They allowed too many pressures, resulting in the offense falling flat. Uiagalelei completed the night with 16-of-30 for 201 yards, one touchdown, and an interception.
I was extremely disappointed with the way we played at times. The things that we work on and emphasize throughout the course of the week—preseason, offseason—things that are critically important to being successful are not showing up as consistent as we need them to be.Mike Norvell said before the fire alarm went off. The biggest letdown for the Noles was their running game. The running backs barely saw the ball in their hands, making it difficult to gain short yardage in the 3rd and 4th downs. They only added 53 yards on the ground from 15 carries, as Lawrence Toafili recorded the most with 30.
Despite another bad day at the office, Mike Norvell believes FSU can bounce back in the remaining games.
I know what it takes to win games [and] I know what it takes for a team to go out there and be able to execute and play at a high level.Mike Norvell added
The Noles are still ranked 10th in the nation and will travel to California to face the Golden Bears, who are unbeaten in their first 2 games. Before that, the Bears will play the San Diego State later today.
