SummerSlam 2025 Night 1 kicked off with a bang at MetLife Stadium, marking the first-ever two-night edition of the event. All six matches delivered, but it was the main event that stole the spotlight. In the night’s main event, CM Punk beat Gunther in a 30-minute marathon and won his first World title in the company since the Royal Rumble 2013 PLE. This made his 12-year wait all the more special and was visible as ‘The Second City Saint’ was in tears following the contest.
The Austrian punished Punk with chops, powerbombs, and a frog splash, but Punk rallied late, busting Gunther open on the announcer’s desk before hitting an elbow drop and two GTS finishers for the win. Ahead of the match, a promo package spotlighted Punk’s championship legacy, from his 2005 Ring of Honor title win to past SummerSlam triumphs. But on this night, it was Punk who prevailed. But not for long!
The night’s biggest twist came moments later. Seth Rollins came out limping on crutches and assisted by Paul Heyman to a thunderous ovation. Moments later, ‘The Visionary’ revealed that he was faking his knee injury, then viciously attacked Punk with the Money in the Bank briefcase, and cashed in successfully. One curb stomp later, Rollins was also a six-time world champion. Michael Cole called it “the ruse of the century,” echoing Rollins’ infamous WrestleMania 31 heist.

In the card opener, Roman Reigns and Jey Uso reunited to defeat Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker in a hard-hitting clash. Breakker and Bronson Reed dominated early, but Uso and ‘OTC 1’ rallied to score the win in SummerSlam’s opening match.
The bout featured chaotic brawling and big moments—Breakker hit a huge spear on Reigns outside, while Reigns responded with a Superman Punch and a spear through the barricade. Reed nearly ended it with a Tsunami, but Reigns shut it down with another punch.

In the end, Reigns and Uso hit a 1-D on Reed. Breakker broke up the pin, but after Reigns took a spear to protect Jey, Uso nailed Reed with a spear of his own, followed by the Uso Splash for the victory. Up next, the first title change of the night saw Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss capture the Women’s Tag Team Championships, overcoming Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez in a competitive showdown. Despite early miscommunication and strong offense from the champions, Bliss and Flair held on.
Rodriguez and Perez dominated much of the match with smooth teamwork and ring control, repeatedly isolating their opponents. Things got chaotic when Bliss accidentally struck Flair, allowing the champs to hit a Tejana Bomb–Code Red combo. But Bliss bounced back, breaking the pin with Natural Selection. In the closing moments, Flair landed a Big Boot on Rodriguez, and Bliss followed up with a Sister Abigail DDT on Perez to seal the win.
Jelly Roll, Tiffany Stratton, and Sami Zayn shine on Night 1 of SummerSlam 2025
Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre defeated Randy Orton and Jelly Roll in a wild tag match at SummerSlam 2025. The action kicked off before the bell as Paul attacked Roll, who surprisingly chose to face McIntyre instead of tagging Orton. After a brutal Glasgow Kiss and beatdown by the heels, Orton entered and turned the tide, until Paul and McIntyre regrouped outside.

In one of the wildest celebrity wrestler spots in WWE history, Paul delivered a frog splash off the top rope, crashing Jelly Roll through the announce table. Despite being helped to the back, the Grammy-nominated artist returned and unleashed on both opponents. He hit power moves like clotheslines and chokeslam on Paul and greeted McIntyre with a powerslam.
However, a Claymore on Roll followed by an RKO on the Scot left everyone down. Paul then recovered and sealed the win with a second top-rope frog splash, pinning Jelly Roll for the victory. For the unversed, Roll entered the bout with a finger injury and was later praised by Triple H on the SummerSlam post-show.
In a surprising result, Tiffany Stratton dispatched Jade Cargill in seven minutes to extend her undefeated run in 2025 to 14-0 and retain her WWE Women’s Championship. The match started fast with early pin attempts before Cargill gained control, tossing Stratton around and landing a suplex. However, a mistimed pose gave Stratton an opening to take over.
The back-and-forth clash saw both women hit big moves, Cargill nearly won with Jaded, but a rope break saved Stratton. Cargill then went for a top-rope Jaded, but Stratton countered mid-air and followed up with the Prettiest Moonsault Ever to seal the win. ‘The Buff Barbie’ is now the longest-reigning active title holder on the roster with 212 days.

Sami Zayn closed the chapter on his rivalry with Karrion Kross at SummerSlam 2025, securing a clean win in their rubber match. Kross controlled much of the bout, taunting Zayn to embrace his “dark side” while Scarlett added to the mind games.
After escaping a Doomsday Saito and a near pinfall with a delayed count, Zayn snapped and unloaded on Kross. Scarlett tried to tempt him with a steel pipe, but Zayn refused to use it. Kross nearly stole the win with a roll-up, but Zayn fired back with an Exploder Suplex into the corner, followed by a decisive Helluva Kick for the pin. Post-match, Zayn walked away, signaling the end of their feud—an ending Kross silently accepted with a nod.
