Indian Paralympic javelin thrower Sundar Singh Gurjar is all set to clinch his first Paralympic medal at the upcoming Tokyo Paralympics. The top thrower competes in the F-46 category.
Gurjar used to compete in the general category up until 2015 when a freak accident forced the amputation of his wrist. However, he was quick to jump from this terrible situation. Gurjar emerged as a top medal contender for India after qualifying for the Rio Paralympics.
At the 9th FAZAA IPC Athletics Grand Prix, he bagged three gold medals in three events of javelin throw, discus throw, and shot put. He won the gold at the 2017 London IPC World Championships. And the javelin thrower has proved his mettle yet again with some marvelous performances.

Gurjar was born on 1st January 1996 in the Devlen Village of Hindaun city, District Karauli in Rajasthan. Sundar Singh Gurjar rose to fame after obtaining an ‘A’ qualification mark for the 2016 Rio Paralympics. He emerged as the top medal contender at the coveted tournament. However, a heartbreak awaited the star as he was disqualified for not registering in time. According to him, he was warming up and did not understand when his name was called out.
A deep state of mental peril followed the Rio disappointment. However with his coach’s help, counselling and arranged sessions with motivational speakers, Gurjar got back on track. At the 9th FAAZA IPC Athletics Grand Prix, he bagged gold medals in three events namely javelin throw, discus throw and shot put.
The top athlete did not look back since, grabbing the gold at the 2017 London IPC World Championships. At the 2018 Asian-Para Games, he won a silver medal in javelin throw and a bronze medal in discus throw.
