Charles Barkley feels Caitlin Clark and JuJu Watkins will dominate the WNBA for next 20 years
Charles Barkley has always stood behind what Caitlin Clark brings to the table as a women’s basketball star. He has always held the WNBA Rookie of the Year in high regard and considers her a game-changer.
After the way her impact transformed the one struggling league into the spotlight, the need for more such stars is growing. USC’s JuJu Watkins has come to the mind of the Hall of Famer. The Round Mound of Rebound appeared as a guest on the Throwbacks podcast where he spoke about the future of the WNBA.
Caitlin is a supernova, and JuJu probably is a better player. So those two women are gonna be running the WNBA for the next 10-12-14-15-20 years basically.
Charles Barkley said
Barkley also acknowledged A’ja Wilson and Napheesa Collier as two of the best players right now. However, he said that the way the two young guns play, it will be difficult for the world to look at anyone other than them. This was evident this season as Clark became unstoppable towards the second half.
Once Watkins comes in after her development at USC, the two guards will make life difficult for the rest of the league. Barkley did mention that when that happens, he wants the rest of the WNBA to accept them as the next superstars.
Charles Barkley adds Paige Bueckers alongside Caitlin Clark and JuJu Watkins
In their conversation about the WNBA and its future, host and former NFL quarterback Matt Leinart mentioned Paige Bueckers. Charles Barkley responded by stating that if Paige Bueckers can stay healthy, she could be in the conversation alongside the two other guards.
Oh my God, I forgot about Paige. If that girl stays healthy, she’s in the conversation with JuJu and Caitlin for the next 20 years. She was considered one of the best high school players ever, she just can’t get a break.
Charles Barkley opined
The Olympic gold medalist summed it up by stating that Caitlin Clark, JuJu Watkins, and Paige Bueckers will shake up the WNBA. He said that the trio would set the league on a different trajectory and outshine other sports leagues in the process.
Bueckers is set to come into the league next year followed by Watkins a couple of seasons later. Other than them, college basketball has some stars in the pipeline, adding on to Charles Barkley’s theory that the league is about to explode.
