Jannik Sinner wanted to tell his mom, Siglinde Sinner, not to watch his Wimbledon final against Carlos Alcaraz from Centre Court, all thanks to superstition. Sinner was afraid that he would lose the match because of her presence.
Siglinde’s various reactions while watching her son play during tense moments have often gone viral. She sometimes even leaves the stand when it becomes unbearable. When Sinner squandered a match point in the fourth set in the Wimbledon final, Siglinde covered her face. She prefers watching the 24-year-old’s matches on TV instead of going to the stadium.
She always told me, ‘I don’t want to be in your box, but if you make it to the final of a Slam in Europe, I want to be there.’ At first, I laughed and said, ‘It’ll never happen anyway.’ Then I made it to the final at Roland Garros, and she told me, ‘I’ll come tomorrow.’ She comes, sits in the box, and watches the match where everything and more happened. But she stayed there, and I told her, ‘You’ve gotten through this!’
Jannik Sinner said during an interview with Sky Sports
Sinner won that Wimbledon match in four sets, avenging his French Open defeat. It was his second Major of the season, following the Australian Open, where he defeated Alexander Zverev.
In Rome, she came for the final, and I lost the final. In Paris, she came, and I lost the final. At Wimbledon, she told me ‘I’ll come’… I didn’t want to tell her, but I thought, ‘This is the last chance!’

In the Italian Open final, Sinner suffered a straight-set defeat at the hands of Alcaraz. It was his first tournament since his three-month ban due to his doping scandal. Sinner, this year, has won five titles from nine finals, with the four defeats coming from the six-time Grand Slam champion.
Jannik Sinner on his French Open final defeat to Carlos Alcaraz
The French Open thriller between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will undoubtedly be remembered for a long time, as it saw the Spaniard save three championship points to turn the tables and eventually end the match in his favor.

Sinner, who looked completely stupefied, had sleepless nights in the aftermath of the match and later even admitted that he wanted to “delete” the memory of the painful defeat. During that interview with Sky Sports, the South Tyrol native recalled the clash, explaining the positive side of it.
But it was an incredible match, and I got into my head that I was one of the two players on the court who delivered a performance like that. It will remain in tennis history for a long time.
Sinner is in Turin for the ATP Finals, where he will enter the tournament as the defending champion. The Italian ace last year defeated Taylor Fritz in the final, en route to which, he did not drop a set and gained 1,500 points. Because he has to defend 1,500 points, the four-time Grand Slam champion dropped to the second spot in the live ATP rankings.
He became World No.1 once again after clinching his first Masters 100 title of the season at the Paris Masters, where Alcaraz failed to go past his opening-round match with a three-set defeat to Britain’s Cameron Norrie.
Sinner lost his top spot to Alcaraz following his defeat to him in the US Open final. He will be chasing his sixth title of the season at the ATP Finals, following his wins at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, China Open, Vienna Open, and the Paris Masters.
