The official retention list of all the franchises ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction was released on October 31. Several important players have not been retained by the respective franchises, and one such example is Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals skipper of IPL 2024. There have been rumors of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) buying Pant in the upcoming mega auction, and former CSK player Suresh Raina addressed those rumours.

Raina stated that when he met the former CSK captain and his former teammate MS Dhoni, Pant was also present there. Hence, he felt that something big was about to happen. This has really opened up the way for Pant’s possible move to CSK and also fielded the rumours surrounding it.

Reports state that Punjab Kings (PBKS) are also targeting Pant. Their new head coach, Ricky Ponting, has shared a close relationship with Pant in Delhi Capitals and has always talked highly about the Indian wicketkeeper. They have also retained just two players who are uncapped and have over INR 110.5 crore to use in the upcoming mega auction.

Pant has been an integral part of the Capitals since IPL 2016. He has played his role as the wicketkeeper and also an explosive batter in the middle order. He became the captain of the team in IPL 2021 and has led the team in three seasons.

The Indian wicketkeeper-batter missed the 2023 season of the IPL due to a near-fatal car crash that he suffered in December 2022. He made a comeback to cricket through IPL 2024 after remaining out of the game for nearly one and a half years.

Pant has scored 3284 runs in the IPL so far in 111 matches at an average of 35.31 and a strike rate of 148.93. The former DC man has one century and 18 half-centuries to his name in the tournament. In IPL 2024, he scored 446 runs in 13 matches at an average of 40.55 and a strike rate of 155.40.
