Two-time Olympic gold medallist Sushil Kumar is currently in Tihar jail for allegedly being involved in the death of fellow wrestler Sagar Dhankar. He has recently requested prison authorities to provide him with a television to remain up to date about with the “happenings in the wrestling world“.
On May 4, 97kg Greco-Roman category wrestler, Sagar Dhankar was beaten to death outside the Chhatrasal stadium. Kumar and his associates allegedly assaulted Dhankar and two of his friends, Sonu Mahal and Amit Kumar, over a property dispute on the intervening night of May 4th and 5th.
Sushil Kumar seeks TV to stay updated about wrestling news
Indian wrestler, Sushil Kumar, has requested prison authorities for a TV to stay up to date with wrestling news.
This request came after a Delhi court dismissed a plea by the wrestler seeking special food and equipment in the prison, including health supplements containing protein, Omega-3 capsules, jointment capsules, pre-workout C4, hyde, multivitamin GNC, and exercise bands, as he wanted to continue his career in the sport.
“Sushil Kumar has made a request through his advocate and submitted his application on Friday. He has sought a TV set to keep in touch with the current things happening outside the jail and to get updates about wrestling,” DG of Tihar, Sandeep Goel was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
Kumar was shifted from Mandoli jail to Tihar jail no. 2 and is currently staying in a separate cell due to security threat. Special security arrangements have been made and police personnel have been deployed round the clock near his barrack.
