Adam Peaty made quite the comeback as he announced his return to competitive swimming at the British Swimming Championships on Tuesday. Peaty sealed the deal in 100m breaststroke on day one of the event.

Peaty recorded the fastest time in the morning qualifying session extremely early in the season. He went on to top that even further, and in the finals he finished with a time of 58.58s, enough to even make the finals of the Tokyo Olympics held last year. “It gets more difficult as you get older. Obviously the crowd are fantastic but it does get harder to race and we’ve overcome some obstacles,” Peaty saidย to olympics.com.

“I took a long time off after the Olympics, but we’re in a good place. I’m not really into times… Tonight was about a race, we have such a depth in breaststroke. My real mission now is to inspire as many people as I can through sport,” said Adam after winning the 100m breaststroke.

Peaty took a long break after his successful Olympic run last year and instead went on the tv show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. He said that the show washed and out of his comfort zone, but it was exactly what he needed to grow.

On the other hand, Imogen Clark took the women’s 50m breaststroke at a blistering pace, finishing with 30.10- just 0.06s off the British Record set four years ago.
