Swimming at Tokyo Olympics

Swimming at Tokyo Olympics will see 4 finals take place on 27th July, Day 4 of the Tokyo Olympics. 2 men’s events and 2 women’s events will take place in the morning half of the day. For the women, the fast paced 100m backstroke and 100m breaststroke will see and exciting finals, while for the men the much anticipated 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke will take place.

USA and Australia are neck and neck with each other, both winning 2 gold medals and many silver and bronze medals till now. Countries like China, Canada, Great Britain and Italy are also having a great campaign in swimming with all winning gold and silver medals.

On the women’s side, the 100m backstroke event will see tough competition. Australia’s Kaylee McKeown who holds the current world record in the women’s 100m backstroke, will be starting off in Lane 3. She will be given tough competition by the American Reagen Smith, the Olympic Record holder, who will start off in lane 4. Kylie Masse of Canada and Emily Seebohm of Australia will be the other women to look out for.

The women’s 100m breaststroke will be another close race, with the world record holder USA’s Lilly King starting off in lane 5. She will have to keep up with the Olympic record holder however, as South Africa’s Tatjana Schoenmaker will be in lane 4. USA’s Lydia Jackoby and Sweden’s Hansson will also be looking to finish on the podium tomorrow.

The men’s 200m freestyle will see Great Britain’s Duncan Scott start off in the fastest lanes, and will have to fight to keep USA’s Keiran Smith at bay. Scott’s compatriot Tom Dean will start off in lane 6, while Lithuania’s Danas Rapsys will be one to look out for.

The 2016 Rio Olympics champion and Olympic record holder Ryan Murphy is a favourite to win tomorrow in the 100m backstroke. However, ROC’s Kliment Kolesnikov qualified just 0.05 seconds behind Murphy and will be looking to clinch the Gold medal tomorrow. Australia’s Mitch Larkin cannot be counted out as well, finishing with the third fastest time in qualification.
