Ariarne Titmus has had a distressing encounter with cancer, which has greatly impacted her training for the Olympics, as she recently revealed. After being scanned for a persistent hip injury, the athlete, who regularly takes part in long-distance competitions, detected a tumor in one of her ovaries.

Although the doctors identified the cause of that issue, they were primarily concerned with an unrelated problem rather than the hip injury. Expressing her perspective on the Keegan and Company podcast, the 23-year-old athlete remarked that the notion of facing a severe health crisis is not a concern for professionals in her line of work.

She further admitted that it could be very frightening when someone informs you of something that could disrupt your plans.

The hip issue was explained by her physical therapist, assuring her that it was manageable and not a cause for concern. She suggested, that she ought to contact the doctor once more, as the doctor has additional information to share with her.

In an attempt to calm her nerves, Titmus received a highly unpleasant surprise that only intensified her fears of being unable to conceive. She visited the clinic to receive an ultrasound and determine its size. Titmus recalled the woman’s exclamation, “Oh my God, this is massive,” she recounted.

Her tumor was found in the ovary, which had a size of 8.5 by 7 centimeters, while her second ovary only measured 1 by 1.5 centimeters. It was extremely large. As it grows to that extent, concerns arise regarding its implications on her ovary and the complexity of its removal.

Removing the growth carried a minor risk that her ovary might continue to bleed, potentially necessitating the removal of the whole ovary. Despite being informed about the potential removal of her ovary during the operation, the Australian woman had no choice but to proceed with the surgery. According to her, a health scare occurred and caused her to face a difficult battle for weeks.
