“Four to six hour window where I cannot remember anything”: Mary-Sophie Harvey alleges being drugged at 2022 Swimming World C’ships

The world is not a safe place, especially for women. This was highlighted by Mary-Sophie Harvey recently at the 2022 World Swimming Championships. The 22-year-old athlete said that she was drugged during the final night of the Championships in Budapest last month.
The Canadian swimmer said that there was a four to six hour window where she couldn’t remember anything at the Championships, and broke up later with a sprained rib and concussion. Harvey later discovered several bruises over her body. Harvey went on to say that she felt ashamed about the incident, but she will not let it define her.
FINA carrying out investigation after Mary-Sophie Harvey drugged at World Championships
Mary-Sophie Harvey went on to write on Instagram, “I ended up going to the hospital, where I was met with doctors and psychologists. They tested and treated me the best way they could. They told me it happens more often [than] we think and that I was lucky in a way, to get out of this with a rib sprain and a small concussion. It did help me cure some of the fears I had but sadly not all of them.”
After this incident came into light, FINA said that they would be launching an investigation. “Fina is aware of the distressing reports regarding Mary-Sophie Harvey and Fina is deeply concerned about her wellbeing. We are in contact with Swimming Canada and the local organising committee. In 2021, Fina adopted widespread measures aimed at safeguarding athletes and an independent investigation officer has been assigned to investigate the matter further,” it said according to BBC Sport.
