The Swiss Indoors match between Ben Shelton and Andrey Rublev in Basel on Friday (October 25) got suspended even before they started to play. The players completed their warm-up, but as fog filled the court, the match was halted for eight minutes.

When the chair umpire announced the delay, Shelton had an idea to start the match as soon as possible. He suggested to the chair umpire to clear the fog with the towels as he hilariously picked up his towel and started to swing his arms up and down to clear the mist.

What do you think would happen if we start doing all the towels like this?

Ben Shelton asked the chair umpire

And while Shelton was entertaining the crowd, Rublev sat quietly and watched the American with a smile. The video of the hilarious incident has been doing rounds on social media.

I love watching Alcaraz and I love watching Grigor Dimitrov. I’d say those two are my two favorites. Alcaraz is a great athlete, can hit every shot in the book, entertains the crowd, and always has a smile on his face.

Ben Shelton told Sky Sports

Shelton then compared Dimitrov to 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer‘s game and called the Bulgarian’s technique ‘perfect’. The American has met Dimitrov just once, in the Round of 64 of the Monte-Carlo Masters, and lost it in three sets.

Against five-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz, Shelton lost the two matches he played, Round of 32 of the 2023 Canadian Open and in the Round Robin stage of the 2024 Laver Cup

Shelton is chasing his second title of the season at the Swiss Indoors, having won the ATP Houston earlier this year. Dimitrov on the other hand, was last seen in action during the Vienna Open where he lost in the fourth round against Tomas Machac. Alcaraz recently lost the Six Kings Slam final to Jannik Sinner in Riyadh.
