Roger Federer was awarded the best Swiss Sportsman of the past 70 years at the Swiss Sports Awards, 2020. This award ceremony marked the 70th anniversary of the Swiss Sports Award, which is the reason why they decided to introduce the award to honour the best athlete in the past seven decades.

The first ceremony of the Swiss Sports Award was held in 1950, when Armin Scheurer, a footballer, track and field athlete won the best sportsman of the year award. The winners of last year’s awards were Mujinga Kambundji, a top sprinter and wrestler, Christian Stucki.

Roger Federer has won the Swiss Sports Personality of the year award, a record seven times in 2003,2004,2006, 2007,2012,2014 and 2017. The winners are chosen by Swiss journalists and the TV viewers.

Roger Federer is arguably one of the greatest sportsman ever and honoring him with the best Swiss Sportsman of the year of the past 70 years, does justice to what he has achieved in his career so far. The Swiss maestro has 20 Grandslam titles to his name, a record which he shares with Rafael Nadal.

Roger Federer has achieved almost everything there is to in tennis. He holds multiple records and has over 1200 career wins under his belt, along with 103 career titles. Vreni Schneider was awarded the best Sportswoman of the past 70 years. The skier has won three Olympic titles, three World titles in her career.

Roger Federer will make his much-awaited comeback in the 2021 season. However, he has cast doubts over participation at the Australian Open 2021, as he has not recovered fully from the knee injury and is still not near his 100 percent.
