Defending champions Karnataka have suffered a huge setback on the onset of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Their skipper Manish Pandey was ruled out of the upcoming edition of the domestic T20 tournament due to a tennis elbow on his left arm. Pandey was diagnosed with it during the recent limited-overs series against Australia. The flamboyant right-handed batsman is currently undergoing rehabilitation in Bangalore at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

The defending champions are already missing the services of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal as they are in Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The responsibility of retaining the prestigious trophy now falls on the shoulders of Karun Nair and Devdutt Padikkal. Pacer Prasidh Krishna has now recovered from the elbow injury he sustained during the IPL-2020. And will be joining the side for the tournament.

Batsman Suryakumar Yadav has been named as the captain of the Mumbai side for the T20 tournament. Suryakumar caught the attention of the nation with his consistent performances in the Indian Premier League. The Mumbai Indians batsman has been one of the most consistent batsmen in the league. Suryakumar’s snub from the India side for the Australia tour raised many eyebrows at the time. Following his consistent performance, Suryakumar has been rewarded with the captaincy of the side in the absence of senior players.

Aditya Tare will be serving as the vice-captain while Dhawal Kulkarni and Tushar Deshpande will be spearheading the pace bowling attack. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Aakarshit Gomel, Sarfaraz Khan, Siddhesh Lad and Shivam Dube are other big names featuring in the 20 member squad. In the meantime, Arjun Tendulkar, the son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, failed to make the Mumbai squad. Arjun was dismal in the warm-up game which cost him a place in the side.
