Mumbai and Kerala played out a high-scoring Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy encounter yesterday that saw the latter’s Mohammed Azharuddeen announcing himself with the joint-third fastest century by an Indian in T20s. Mumbai had scored 196 runs in the first innings thanks to quick-fire knocks from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Aditya Tare and Suryakumar Yadav. Jalaj Saxena and KM Asif shone for Kerala with 3 wickets apiece.

In the second innings, it was all Azharuddeen as he came out all guns blazing and aced the chase in less than 16 overs. He got to his hundred in 37 balls and ended with 137 off 54 balls in a knock that included 9 fours and 11 sixes. The Mumbai bowlers had no clue to what hit them as they surrendered against the batsman’s ruthless hitting.

In the sixth over of the first innings, Mumbai were going well at 39/0 when Sreesanth who is making his comeback after 7 years in cricket came in to bowl. In the very first ball of the over, Jaiswal tried to go after the pacer but swung and missed. The Kerala pacer immediately stared at the young opener and exchanged some words with him in an attempt to unsettle him.

However, Jaiswal was unfazed as he responded in style to hit 6,6 and 4 off the next three deliveries. Sreesanth went for 47 runs in the end and Jaiswal got out for a 40 off 32 balls.
