The highly anticipated match of the T20 World Cup- India vs Pakistan might end up not happening at all due to rain. At the MCG in Melbourne, the venue, where the arch-rivals’ clash is to take place, is expecting rain between 3 to 8 mm on Sunday [October 23].
The Bureau of Meteorology stated: “Cloudy. High (80%) chance of showers, most likely in the evening.” The bureau has also warned of a minor flood from Saturday to Sunday. “Water levels of the Werribee and Lerderderg Rivers at various locations are rising in response to the rain.” According to Accuweather.com, there will be 88% of cloud cover and it’s going to rain for 5.5 hours, it will be severe during India vs Pakistan match day.
There also will be a probability of thunderstorms (12%), and precipitation will be 89%. “Occasional rain and drizzle in the morning; otherwise, considerable cloudiness; additional rain can lead to flooding problems,” wrote Accuweather.com.
As Melbourne woke up to heavy rainfall on Saturday, the dark clouds soon scattered, allowing Indian players to continue their practice session ahead of their opener. Cricket lovers, especially the spectators certainly have crossed their fingers, for they don’t want to miss one of the high-octane clashes of this sport.
Will there be a reserve day for India vs Pakistan match?
Reserve day is only for the semifinals and finals; group matches do not have this advantage. As a minimum of five overs are required to conduct a T20 match, the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method will be used for rain-delayed matches.
India vs Pakistan will take place at 7 pm local time which is 1:30 IST. And as rain is expected in the evening, the match might be suspended without a single ball being played.
Meanwhile, India last encountered Pakistan in this year’s Aisa Cup 2022. Babar Azam‘s Men in Green outclassed the Indian team by five wickets.
India last clashed against Pakistan in the World Cups was in the 2021 T20 World Cup where Men in Blue faced a humiliating 10-wicket defeat. After Shaheen Afridi‘s three scalps, the duo of Babar and Mohammad Rizwan chased down the 152-run target without breaking a sweat.
