The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, was a remarkable event for cricket fans around the world. Notably, it became the most attended ICC event after having shattered numerous records for both in-stadium attendance and digital viewership.
Cricket is religiously followed in South Asia, and the 2026 T20 World Cup was bound to break records. It was all the more memorable, as defending champions India secured the trophy, becoming the first team to win the T20 WC three times. The Men in Blue defeated New Zealand by a huge margin of 96 runs in the final. Batting first, the home side raced to 255/5, while the Kiwis could only manage 159 runs in response.
The final, played at the world’s largest cricketing venue, Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, was attended by 86,824 spectators.
Apart from the stadium attendance, the digital viewership for the final hit an unbelievable 72.5 million concurrent viewers on JioHotstar to break the global streaming record. The previous peak concurrency of 65 million was made during the semi-final, between India and England.

Moreover, this year’s T20 World Cup also turned out to be ICC’s most-watched global event ever, with more than 1.3 million fans attending the 55 matches played across India and Sri Lanka. The tournament averaged roughly 24,208 spectators per match, the highest ever for an ICC event.
A defining feature of the 2026 WC was the unexpectedly high turnout for non-host matches, with England’s group-stage fixture against Scotland at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata attracting over 40,000 spectators.

Unlike previous editions, matches featuring associate teams also saw a high turnout. Another significant driver behind the massive attendance was the influx of fans from Nepal, who turned up in extraordinary numbers to support their team. Most of Nepal’s matches were hosted at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, and they consistently drew a turnout of around 13,000 to 19,000 fans every matchday.

Thereafter, the attendance for the 2026 T20 WC surpassed the record of 1.25 million fans set during the 2023 ODI World Cup, which was also held in India. The final of the 2023 CWC, also played in Ahmedabad, had previously drawn a crowd of 92,453 fans to the stadium.
Sahibzada Farhan named ICC Player of the Month, following T20 World Cup heroics
In-form Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month, despite having failed to win the Player of the Tournament award at the recently concluded T20 World Cup. The 30-year-old finished as the highest run-getter.

Sahibzada Farhan was the lone warrior in what turned out to be another disappointing T20 WC for the Men in Green. It was not easy for the Pakhtunkhwa-born batter to make it to the biggest stage, given he had not played for Pakistan between 2018 and 2024. After a stellar PSL campaign last summer, Farhan made it through and has since then ascended to become the world’s no.3-ranked T20I batter.
At the 2026 T20 WC, he scored 383 runs in six innings at an average of 76.60 and a strike-rate of 160.25. His tournament campaign was defined by two rare feats; first, he became the first cricketer to score two hundreds in a single edition of the T20 World Cup, and second, he overtook Virat Kohli’s 2014 record of 319 runs in a single edition. The 30-year-old has now won the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award.

Farhan is also the first player from Pakistan to win this award in two years, since Haris Rauf‘s 2024 triumph. While he had a remarkable individual campaign, the Men in Green did not progress far into the T20 World Cup and were eventually knocked out of the Super Eight stages.
