Tennis players have their unique ways of celebrating their triumphs. While the majority of them are within the casket of old traditions and follow the usual path of celebrating their feat, a few of them have found some modern ways to celebrate and cherish their successful run. One such celebration that has been making all the right noises on the internet is when former World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev and Denis Shapovalov celebrated their success at Vienna Open Finals with a champagne shower.

Taking inspiration from F1 drivers, the Russian with the Canadian Denis Shapovalov engaged in champagne spraying to celebrate the former’s win at the Vienna Open. He won the tournament by defeating the World No.16 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Although it has been an extremely crucial season for the Russian, the incredible win saw him return to the top 3 in the ATP rankings.

Meanwhile, Shapovalov took to his Instagram story to take a hilarious dig at Medvedev and even asked F1 driver Max Verstappen to give him some tips and tricks to better his champagne-spraying skills.

“Gonna need some tips from Max Verstappen,” Shapovalov wrote.

This is the Russian’s second ATP singles title this season. Now, it seems like, with his protected ranking, Medvedev will definitely qualify for the finals next month.

Daniil Medvedev’s season so far

Daniil Medvedev has had a tough time on the court this season so far as he was booed by the crowds in the tournaments due to his Russian nationality. Despite being in the Top 10 of the ATP rankings, the Russian tennis player was not allowed to play in the Wimbledon and the Laver Cup event in London. Resultantly, his form dipped rock-bottom, thus losing the World No.1 ranking to none other than Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open.

He started this season on a positive note by playing a host of matches for Team Russia at the ATP Cup. He then made it to the final of the first Grand Slam of the season, the Australian Open, but was defeated by none other than the tennis legend himself, Rafael Nadal, in an exciting match. He again lost to Rafael Nadal, this time in the semi-final of the Mexico Open in straight sets.

The Russian played well but not extraordinarily at the Indian Wells Open, Miami Open, and Geneva Open. However, in the run-up to the French Open, he was defeated by Marin Čilić in the fourth round of the Roland Garros in three sets. He then made it to the finals of both the Libema Open and Terra Wortmann Open but lost on both occasions.

In Mexico, he won the Los Cabos Open by defeating Cameron Norrie but lost to Nick Kyrgios in the fourth round. He also played at the Astana Open, but was defeated by Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

The Vienna Open win will certainly boost his confidence. This is also his first title after his child was born this year. Hopefully, a new entrant in the Medvedev family will help the World No.3 to perform better at the Paris Masters 2022 and the ATP Finals tournaments.
