Taylor Fritz brought a lot of excitement to the US tennis fans as he reached the finals of the US Open. However, he couldn’t bring the US Open title as he fell to Jannik Sinner in straight sets 3-6, 4-6, 5-7.

Fritz was hoping to become the first American man since Andy Roddick to win a Grand Slam title. However, the Americans would have to wait another season for that thing to become a reality. Despite the loss, the 26-year-old remains optimistic about his Grand Slam chances ahead.

I know we’ve been waiting for a champion for a long time. I’m sorry I couldn’t get it done. I’m gonna keep working and hopefully I get it done next time.
Taylor Fritz said in the post-match interview

US Open 2024 was the first time since the 2002 edition that witnessed an American woman and a man in the singles final. In 2002, Serena Williams beat Venus Williams in the women’s final, whereas Pete Sampras beat Andre Agassi in the men’s final. However, the Americans turned out to be on the wrong side of the trophy ceremony this year, with Jessica Pegula losing to Aryna Sabalenka yesterday.

Taylor Fritz’s run to the US Open final

12th seed Taylor Fritz would have given himself little chance to be in the US Open final at the start of the tournament. The 26-year-old found himself in the same draw as defending champion Novak Djokovic, who was coming into the tournament after winning the Olympic Singles Gold medal in Paris.

However, the Serbian shockingly lost in the third round to Alexei Popyrin. That development opened up the draw for the American as his belief grew stronger. In the first week of the US Open, Fritz didn’t lose a set, but the hard work started in the second week.

In the Round of 16, he beat 8th seed and 2022 runners-up Casper Ruud in four sets. He followed that by extinguishing 2020 runners-up Alexander Zverev‘s hopes of a Grand Slam title in the quarterfinals. In an All-American semifinal affair, he beat 20th seed Frances Tiafoe in five sets during the night session to book a date with Jannik Sinner in the US Open final. He became the first man since Andy Roddick in 2006 to play the championship match in New York.
