Tee Higgins’ mom is not happy with the Cincinnati Bengals putting an exclusive franchise tag on her son. According to her, the Bengals are being selfish.

Higgins’ mom, aka Camilla Stewart, has a history of sticking up for her son. Every mother wants the best for their child, and when the news spread that the Bengals were thinking about placing a tag on the former second-rounder, she flipped out on social media.

Higgins seemed to have an idea about what was going on behind the scenes regarding his contract. He dropped a cryptic tweet as well.

“Ima let yall know first,” Tee Higgins wrote.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport quickly jumped in and replied, “Let me know first.” Higgins’ mom Camilla wrote, “Yup (laughing emoji) after me.”

The news definitely didn’t please her.

The Bengals don’t often deal out large contracts to their players. The only exception was their quarterback Joe Burrow who signed a $275 million in 5 years which includes $219.01 million guaranteed.

Both Higgins and Burrow joined the Bengals in 2020, making the wide receiver eligible for a new contract in 2024. They were short on cash due to paying Burrow nearly 30% of their salary cap.

However, as they didn’t want to lose a very good receiver, a tag was placed on Higgins, forcing him to earn $21.8 million for the season. For a short while, he tried looking to move but Burrow convinced him to stay in Cincinnati.

How much will Tee Higgins earn under the new franchise tag?

The Bengals currently are around $47.6 million under the cap to work with. The issue is they need to make several additions, mainly in the defense that let them down time and again last campaign.

On top of it, the Bengals need to pay Ja’Marr Chase, who isn’t ready to take less money even though he wants Higgins to stay. Then there’s the Bengals sack leader Trey Hendrickson whose current contract ends during the off-season.

If the Bengals place a tag on the 26-year-old, then he will earn $26.2 million for the 2025 season, according to the Cincinnati Inquirer.

The decision to stay with the Bengals completely falls on Higgins. He will be allowed to speak with potential trade partners two days before March 12 when the trade window officially opens.

There won’t be a shortage of teams looking to add the Clemson graduate. Receiver-needy teams such as the New England Patriots, the Los Angeles Chargers, and even divisional rivals Pittsburgh Steelers could make a move for Tee Higgins.
