‘You can’t always go against the numbers,’ Alexander Zverev picks ‘THIS’ member of the Big 3 to settle the G.O.A.T debate

Alexander Zverev, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer

German World No.3 Alexander Zverev has been one of the top players on the ATP tour in recent years. He has constantly improved himself and has risen up the ranks. He was the most successful player this season when it comes to the number of titles won. He won as many as 6 titles including an Olympic gold and the ATP Finals.

Recently, in an interview with Tennis Magazin, Zverev talked about various aspects of his game. He first spoke in length about how his game has evolved with maturity. He said that with age, one understands sport better and knows how to stay calm in different situations.

“With age you also understand sport better, you understand everything a little better in general. You’re trying to develop yourself too, on the court, off the court, trying to become a better tennis player. You get to know yourself better. You know when to react and how, when to have an outbreak, when to stay calm,” he said.

Moving further, Zverev also shared his views on the G.O.A.T debate. For almost two decades, the Big 3 of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have dominated the sport but Zverev agreed to the fact that the level of consistency Djokovic has shown in the last few years is unmatched.

He said that it is clear that Federer and Nadal are fans’ favorite but Djokovic’s stats speak for himself. “I know a lot of tennis fans are more for Roger or Rafa, but you can’t argue against the statistics. Novak has won the most Grand Slams with Roger and Rafa. He’s been number one in the world for most weeks and has finished number one most years, Novak has won most of the Masters titles and a lot more,” he said.

He added that one can’t always go against the numbers to say Federer or Nadal and admitted that realistically, Djokovic is the G.O.A.T as of now.

“You can’t always go against the numbers and say that Roger or Rafa are better because we’ve all been fans of them from an early age. Sometimes you have to look at things realistically and Novak’s records are simply a fact,” he said.
